|Getting closer to my goal...this is a 35 pound difference. Or more. I didn't weigh myself back then.|
I am blessed to have some really great people in my life. People who have supported me from day one of this weight loss journey. And it really is a journey. I've had ups, I've had downs. But I have never once had anyone tell me that I couldn't do it. When I've felt discouraged or depressed or had thoughts that I would never succeed, my friends and family have been there to pick me up, get me back on track and tell me that I can.
I know that not everyone is that blessed. Recently a friend told me that she had shared her weight loss success with another friend of hers. This friend told her that her weight loss was "probably just water weight." Seriously, lady?! She had lost about ten pounds at that point. That is well beyond water weight! And just this week I was sharing with a friend how I could tell in her photos that she had lost weight (she's lost 25 pounds so far...rock star!) and she told me that her mother had told her it was just the way the photo was taken. Come on! Be supportive, people! These negative comments are what lead people to get discouraged and to quit.
I'm here to tell you that you CAN do it. Don't listen to the haters--they just gone hate!
Find your support group. If you don't have anyone in your life then find a group online. Spark People has a lot of forums and groups to choose from. Check out My Fitness Pal (my user name is simplyhealthymama!). Ask around on Facebook and see if any of your friends want to be workout partners. Find a friend who is also losing weight and become texting buddies. My friend, Jenny, and I text every single day to check in and to keep each other on track. Join a running group. Join a gym and get to know some people there.
And above all, believe in yourself. Like the saying goes, whether you believe you can or you believe you can't, you are right. Believe that you CAN!
